local trips of which night markets you should go
Kaohsiung has a well-developed railway system, which allows visitors to travel around with metro. However, the metro is relatively expensive when you compare to other public transport. (cost at least NT30 per trip). With the government subsidiary. travelers with iPASS一卡通 could enjoy free fare after you take your 3rd bus ride (within the city) and up till half discount outside the city center.
Central Park station 中央公園站
While most of the visitors chose to stay near the city center like Kaohsiung train station, I would prefer Central Park Station more. Apart from a central park nearby, there is shopping area with a variety of clothes in a decent price, there is a small night market inside those small shops. Many locals staying in Kaohsiung don’t have to travel around but there is everything in Central Park.
In Taiwan, bigger clothes shop (not the chain one) mean they manufacture the clothes in a large amount quantity, which make the price be more competitive. Most of their products are made in Taiwan. Smaller shop implies that those clothes are imported from Japan, Korea, and some European countries. Sometimes, they are designed by the shopowners.
Formosa Boulevard 美麗島站
Many said it is the prettiest MRT station. But I don’t recommend the tourist night market there because they often charge 2-3 times higher than the normal price. However, there are many bookstores nearby, which show another side of the tourist area.
can’t take a good photo because of the lighting haha
**tips: you might visit Kaisyuan, where Kaisyuan Night Market 凱旋觀光夜市 and Jinzuan Night Market 金鑽觀光夜市 are located next to each other, which is famous among the locals.
