Milford Sound & Fiordland National Park /Solo Trip in New Zealand

Because of its landscape and the rapid weather, the local government allocate many resources to maintaining and renewing the road of the national park

Before Homer Tunnel

I heard that many TV & movies have been filmed here?!!

Homer Tunnel

The tunnel is straight and was originally single-lane and gravel-surfaced. The tunnel walls remain unlined granite. Until it was sealed and enlarged it was the longest gravel-surfaced tunnel in the world.
actually, you can’t see anything inside because there is no lighting inside the tunnel.

Fiordland National Park

Mirror Lake

Mirror Lake is a great stopover on the way to Milford Sound. The lake could reflect the mountain view, only if it is neither windy or rainy. We were really lucky for the weather.
However, there were a few tours traveling at the same time as us, such as the Great Sight tour. We decided to travel back after visiting the Milford Sound. It could be quite crowded when you joined the Milford Sound day tour, simply because everyone has the same schedule: visit different attractions of the national park in the morning and take the ferry to Milford Sound at 2-3pm, travel back to the Queenstown city center at 5-6pm. That explains why they are in a rush for every stop in Fiordland National Park.

Milford Sound

Situated on the west coast of the South Island, Milford Sound is a fusion of spectacular natural features with amazing visual cues around every corner.
Described by Rudyard Kipling as the ‘eighth wonder of the world’, Milford Sound was carved by glaciers during the ice ages. Breathtaking in any weather, the fiord’s cliffs rise vertically from the dark waters, mountain peaks scrape the sky and waterfalls cascade downwards from as high as 1000 meters. When it rains in Milford Sound, and it often does, those waterfalls multiply with magnificent effect.
I didn’t make any research on my trip so I don’t even it is a cruise ride to Milford Sound haha
The weather condition is crucial for the trip because it is impossible to view anything on the deck if there are any rains, they suspend the cruise service for quite a few days throughout the weeks, some visitors couldn’t take the cruise due to the bad weather and they have no other options but skip the attraction. (It’s hard to stay in Te Anau for overnight if the weather condition become worse)
There is an announcement introducing different attractions and sometimes they would spot out the ocean creatures if there are any!)

National Park – Chasm

We visited back the Fiordland National Park area after the cruise. Chasm makes you feel like in a rainforest, river… It should be more fun to come in the summer.

Gunn’s Camp

There is no signal in the whole Te Anau area after passing the channel, so we can’t use the internet for the whole night. Staying in Gunn’s Camp makes us like go camping with a group of friends, yet we barely know each other. I was with an Australian girl, Free and local stray staff Jess and Jerah! We were playing a few kiwi games, like Scribble game and kiwi quiz. (I sound so delighted when I got to know the questions hahaha)
It was a great experience because I dreamt of doing a road trip and probably some camping all the time. But I cannot drive and it is really difficult to do these stuff when I always traveling alone. Milford Sound & Fiordland National Park
